Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening cup on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the French league winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side fired twice late to seize a shock lead. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
