The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
