Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then located multiple other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police state early analysis show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; authorities are presently not informed of any harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities said they were trying "to solve the incident" and have requested to the community for tips.
A high-ranking political figure said the incident left him without words and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the death of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
